Whether you enjoy a lazy float down the river, camping, horseback riding, hiking or tackling extreme bike trails, Louisiana’s Bogue Chitto State Park has it all. And it’s only a 90-minute drive from downtown New Orleans.
A river runs through it
The Bogue Chitto River has long been a popular place for floating in its gentle currents through the wooded landscape of southeastern Louisiana. It’s also a place where you can paddle a canoe or kayak and take a relaxing break on one of the Bogue Chitto’s sandy beaches. But this Louisiana state park, which opened in 2010, has much more to offer the outdoor enthusiast.
outdoor fun in bogue chitto state park
Spring 2021 saw the opening of Bogue Chitto’s new mountain bike trails. The trails take full advantage of the ups and downs of the hilly landscape. And if you prefer to explore on two feet instead of two wheels, the park has the 5.5 mile wooded Gorge Run Trail that takes you from the piney hilltops to the river bank below. You can also let a horse do the walking for you by joining one of the guided horseback trail rides located inside the park.
