NOLA Motorsports is hoping to fulfill the need for speed as it resumes auto racing events at its Avondale, Louisiana track. The race park originally opened in 2011, but recently completed major improvements to the track and other facilities.

The racetrack and events center are located on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, only 20 minutes from downtown New Orleans. The 2.75 mile long loop features 16 turns and a straightaway that’s more than a mile long. “Most of the cars are probably hitting 180 miles-an-hour coming down the front stretch,” said park manager David Pace. The track meets FIA Grade 2 standards, which Pace explained, “allows us to have anything other than Formula-1 here.”
speeding around the track
Race car driver Phil Daigrepont of New Orleans invites me to ride with him in his 600 horsepower Porche Turbo S Exclusive. He’s all smiles as we pause near the beginning of the straightaway for a ‘launch mode’ start. Daigrepont turns a dial on the steering wheel, presses the break and stomps the accelerator as the engine roars. As he releases the break, the tires squeal and the car bolts down the track. Within seconds, we are speeding at more than 130 miles-per-hour.

If you want to get behind the wheel yourself, the Avondale racing facility features what it calls the fastest karting track in the South. Adults and children can rent a kart and speed around the nearly mile-long track that has plenty of twists and turns. Karting schedules, events and prices are posted on the NOLA Motorsports website.
nola motorsports events
With the completion of track upgrades in April, 2022, Nola Motorsports hosts the SRVA and its NOLA Speedtour. The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association features three days of racing April 8-10. The track is hosting other events including NASA Races. The National Auto Sport Association event gives amateurs the opportunity to drive their cars on the race course.
