Standing at the highest point in Louisiana
By Louisiana standards, this really is a mountain. It is the highest point in the state, located south of the town of Arcadia in Bienville Parish in the northern part of the Louisiana.
You are encouraged to sign the guest book at a wooden kiosk at the peak of the 535-foot tall hill. On my visit to this remote community, I encountered several hikers from other parts of the country. Doing the one-mile hike to the top of Driskill Mountain allowed them to check off another state as they attempted to reach the highest peak in as many U.S. states as possible.
Louisiana has the third lowest summit of any state in the country. Delaware the Florida rank 49th and 50th for elevation.
The hike to the top of Driskill Mountain is an easy two-mile roundtrip up a wide gravel and dirt trail. The hike takes you through a thick forest with seasonal wildflowers.
At the summit, there are bench for relaxing and enjoying the solitude of the Louisiana Mountain. Although the land is privately owner, visitors are welcome.
There is parking at the trailhead at Mount Zion Presbyterian Church on Louisiana Highway 507, 12 miles south of Interstate 20.
