The Sazerac Company, one of the largest distillers in the United States, is now distilling small quantities of its Sazerac Rye Whiskey at its downtown Museum and distillery in New Orleans.
Mixing a Sazerac cocktail
Antoine Peychaud, a New Orleans pharmacist, is credited with creating the bitters that are a key ingredient of the Sazerac cocktail. Three dashes of these bitters, mixed with Sazerac Rye Whiskey and a hint of Herbsaint are all you need to mix your own New Orleans specialty drink. But the process of mixing this drink is important. Matt Ray of the Sazerac House Museum shows you step-by-step how to create the cocktail.
The Sazerac Company has created a beautiful three-story museum on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans to show off the history of this drink. The museum is also a working distillery. Best of all, it’s free to visit and take a guided tour.
