The Super Bowl LIX celebrations began with a spectacular laser light show on historic St. Louis Cathedral and its neighboring buildings at Jackson Square. The dazzling displays are projected nightly on the iconic landmarks, the Cathedral, the Cabildo and the Presbytere.

The projections began Sunday night, February 2, and will continue for a week through the Superbowl game, February 9. The images feature colorful painted works of local artists Becky Fos, James Michalopoulos, Terrance Osborne, George Rodrigue and Hunt Slonem. The displays are created by thirteen laser projectors. The continuous shows begin at 6:30 pm and repeat every 30 minutes until 11pm.
saints owner gayle benson leads the celebration
New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser were on hand for the start of the laser light show at Jackson Square Sunday night. Mrs. Benson said, “This celebration reflects our spirit, our heritage and it’s an important reminder of the need to preserve what makes our city so special. St. Louis Cathedral is in the midst of a 75-million-dollar restoration campaign, being led by Mrs. Benson.

Please leave the installation up for a little longer!! We are coming the following weekend and would love to see it! More art please!!

Get sponsors if need be and make it permanent. New Orleans spent how much to light up the GNO bridge and they can’t pay to keep something that is much better. Make it seasonal even Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas then do it up for New Years and the Sugar Bowl. This such a no-brainer that I’m 100% New Orleans government will drop the ball.

This secular light show does not belong on a sacred place of worship!

I think the installations are awful. These are naturally beautiful landmarks. Everytime i walk through the square at night, im disappointed tourists arent seeing the Real beauty of the cathedral at night.

The light show is a brilliant display of artistry and I love having such a thing in our city. But it is not fitting for the cathedral, a space which is sacred to the Lord.

This is so beautiful! I hope they continue to use this in the future. What a way to celebrate the cathedral.
