Louisiana is not at the top of the list for places to go to see Fall color in the trees. But if you live in the Bayou State, and don’t want to drive to far-away mountains, you can immerse yourself in the colors of Autumn in North Louisiana’s Hill Country.
a late october through november treat
Some people who live near Homer in extreme northern Louisiana refer to their area as “Louisiana’s northern hill country”. And the roads through Claiborne Parish have the twists and turns and ups and downs of a hilly landscape. There are also a number of trees that are not pines and evergreens. So you will see the bright gold and red colored leaves of Autumn.
Louisiana Fall color in Lake claiborne state park
I turned into Lake Claiborne State Park located just south of Homer and drove around the heavily-wooded landscape. The midday sun flashed through the tall trees, many of them with leaves that were already showing off their colorful Fall foliage. My visit took place on October 24th, and it looked like there were still a few more weeks of color left. Some trees had not fully changed color yet.
