One of the things I love most about exploring Louisiana is discovering its breathtaking natural beauty — from lakes ringed with ancient cypress trees to the winding bayous and piney hills that stretch across the state. Through my years producing Heart of Louisiana TV feature stories, I’ve ventured into some of the most scenic corners of the Bayou State, capturing not just the landscapes but the life that fills them — great egrets gliding above the marshes, herons standing motionless in mirrored waters, and songbirds calling as dawn breaks. I’m especially drawn to the golden light of sunrise and sunset, when the world seems to hold its breath for a few perfect moments. With my camera, I try to preserve that quiet beauty — those fleeting glimpses of Louisiana’s wild heart — and share them with others.
a kayak – my best camera accessory
On one morning in October, 2025, I slipped my kayak into the still waters of Lake Fausse Pointe, surrounded by towering cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. A soft fog hung over the water, blurring the line between earth and sky. As I paddled through the ancient forest, the silence was broken only by the dip of my paddle, the chirping of birds, and the occasional splash of a fish. The mirrored surface reflected every branch and wisp of moss, creating a dreamlike world that felt untouched by time. Join me in the kayak for that beautiful morning on the cypress tree-filled lake:

The photograph titled “Golden Haze” was taken that same foggy morning, as the rising sun cast a soft amber glow across the magnificent old cypress tree that stood in still reflection — a moment of quiet light and timeless beauty.

louisiana landscape photography under the stars
I have discovered places that are dark enough to capture brilliant images of the stars and the milky way. On a clear, moonless night, you can sometimes witness the spectacular drama of the stars above our Louisiana landscapes. I’ve captured a shooting star streaking through the sky of the Kisatchie National Forest. And in Plaquemines Parish, the milky way floats above the dying remains of a grove of oak trees.

Nice shot of Lake Martin. I need to get down there sometime. I’m a hobbyist landscape photographer in central Louisiana and am always looking for subject matter.
