South Toledo Bend State Park is temporarily closed for road repairs and cabin upgrades.
The Toledo Bend Reservoir, located on the Louisiana-Texas state line, is famous for its fishing tournaments, lakefront cabins and recreational opportunities.
The reservoir was created in the 1960’s on the Sabine River and is the fifth largest man-made lake in the United States. Agencies in Louisiana and Texas jointly manage the dam and a hydroelectric station.
State parks at both ends of the reservoir
Louisiana operates two state parks along the reservoir’s 1,200 miles of shoreline, North Toledo Bend State Park at Zwolle, and South Toledo Bend State Park at Anacoco.
Launch your boat for a day of fishing for largemouth bass and sac-a-lait or rent a canoe for a quiet paddle on the lake. Both state parks feature vacation cabins on the reservoir and each has more than 50 campsites.
These two Louisiana State Parks provide fishing piers and trails for hiking, biking and bird watching. The campground at South Toledo Bend also features lakefront ‘glamping’ tent sites located on a tree-covered peninsula.
outdoor excitement at south toledo bend
South Toledo Bend is the only Louisiana State Park with trails for ATV riding. The park features 10 miles of trails for all-terrain vehicles. Even after a heavy rain, the hilly terrain and sandy soil drain fast enough four-wheelers to speed through the state park forest.
